Government, Region, Municipalities and (part) of the trade unions accuse Glencore of wanting to leave Sardinia, leaving behind unemployment and environmental damage.

Public intervention is being invoked on several fronts, perhaps a decree, to include the production of zinc and lead among those strategic for Italy. The effect would be that of forcing the multinational to produce them in Portovesme and San Gavino, or else hand over to other companies.

But the managing director of Portovesme srl, Davide Garofalo, replies firmly: «Nobody has ever said that Glencore wants to leave the island. Reclamations not done? The president of the Region does not tell the truth. Today the real problem to face is the cost of energy».
