Tragedy came last June: Gianfranco Palma, a tourist from Milan, died after colliding with a deer while he was on his scooter on the road to Is Molas. Six months have passed but, on the 195 in the Pula area, the situation has not been resolved and the sudden crossings of animals (not only deer, but also wild boars and fallow deer above all) continue. With great dangers for those who travel the state road by car or motorbike. Accidents due to deer hit because they appear out of nowhere on the 195 in 2024 alone have been at least ten, a significant figure in itself. But there are many more that have been narrowly avoided: the last one happened this morning .
"At 10:15, just before Corte Noa: three deer that with incredible strength jumped from the edge of the road to the other, without touching the asphalt ", the complaint of Roberta Loi. "I stopped and turned on the hazard lights, as did the other car coming from the opposite direction. At the time it seemed like a scene from a movie with a bit of a scare. Then I realized what could have happened. The weight of the animals at that speed would have been three bombs. By chance, both I and the other driver, for a handful of seconds, were not in the path of the deer. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be here telling the story ".
Between Pula, Villa San Pietro and Sarroch, incidents of this kind have been recorded with dangerous frequency for some time: in addition to the fatal accident in June, there have also been several in which motorists have been injured or unharmed, while the animals have died. Recently, Walter Cabasino, mayor of Pula, has anticipated the installation of luminous deterrents to try to prevent deer from crossing the state road. But the situation continues to be highly risky: " We can no longer say that the Region will intervene when someone dies, because unfortunately it has already happened, but nothing has changed . We only hope that, like Russian roulette, it never happens to anyone again", concludes Loi.
