The small shops selling alcohol and spirits in the Marina, Stampace and Villanova districts of Cagliari will have to lower their shutters from 9pm to 6am.

This was established by the mayor Paolo Truzzu , with a new ordinance - number 129 signed on Friday 29 December 2023 - with the aim, we read in a note from the Municipality, of «countering the phenomena of degradation that put urban safety at risk in the three neighborhoods , especially at night. And which are often caused by the presence of individuals and groups of people addicted to excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages. This situation - explains the municipality - creates not only a disturbance of public peace but also a potential danger for public safety and the physical integrity of people due to the abandonment of containers, mainly glass or cans".

The ordinance, therefore, provides for the night closure in the three interesting neighborhoods «starting from 2 January and until 30 April 2024, of food and mixed commercial establishments (shops, emporiums, markets and minimarkets) with a surface area of less than 150 m2 and having alcoholic and/or spirit drinks in their daily commercial offer".

The provision, it is specified, will be valid seven days a week, including weekends.
