Stop cutting 190 trees in Cagliari . The Municipality's plan distorts the landscape, it was not adopted on the basis of in-depth studies and does not provide for adequate replacement of the eliminated plants.

This, in extreme synthesis, is the position of the Archaeological and Landscape Superintendency , which suspends the "maintenance of the trees" conceived by the technicians of Palazzo Bacaredda and plants a long row of poles.

The document was disclosed by Stefano Deliperi's legal intervention group, which "hopes for an adequate evaluation of the interventions on the arboreal heritage and the most scrupulous respect for legality, necessary for the protection of our environmental and cultural heritage".

The cuts were planned in viale Calamosca, viale Diaz and in Sant'Elia, an area of the village.

The Superintendency explains that the plan includes "also contexts of particular landscape and historical-cultural value, as well as identity for the community involved", and notes "several critical points on the effectiveness, completeness and completeness of the proposed plan: the draft appears, in fact, more an analytical work on the condition of the state of health of the individual existing trees (...) without representing in detail replacement intervention actions in the estimated case of maximum gravity which implies the elimination of the tree specimen".

The Superintendency emphasizes the fact that the proposed municipal plan is "more or less invasive (cutting of a substantial portion of specimens in a particular urban area) without proposing a suitable compensatory intervention in relation to the proposed cutting of trees".

The planned maintenance, for the ministerial body, assumes «the connotations of a significantly transformative intervention of a particular urban area (boulevard, square, park) urban area (boulevard, square, park)».

According to Grig, "the considerations of the Superintendence of Cagliari are very clear, almost a real manifesto of the landscape management of the arboreal heritage in an urban area".

"In consideration of the historical importance of the trees, the presence of landscape constraints in the areas in question and the need to guarantee public safety" it is deemed necessary, "if propensities to subsidence are identified, carry out an Advanced or level 3 Assessment , capable of providing detailed information, which makes use of specific instrumentation".

This is to allow «the objective decision between felling and conservation of a tree due to its high propensity to collapse. The plan must be accompanied, against the analytical data on the health condition of the particular specimen, by a corresponding proposal for maintenance intervention which can range from controlled pruning to phytosanitary intervention for the specimen's care. In cases, however, of tree cutting due to excessive criticality on the state of health or on the risk of collapse, it will have to be countered by the proposal for an intervention that contemplates the appropriate replacement of the specimen with a new one».

Hence the request for a revision of the plan: meanwhile 190 trees in Cagliari remain in place.
