Carabinieri from the Porto Torres Carabinieri Mobile Unit responded to the scene after being alerted by residents who heard gunshots.

When the officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the man had shot and seriously injured his own crossbreed dog with several shots fired from a legally owned Remington rifle.

The Carabinieri immediately requested the urgent intervention of the veterinarian on duty and the staff of a veterinary clinic who took care of the injured animal and, thanks to the timely assistance, managed to save its life .
The officers conducted a thorough search of the man's home and seized another 12-gauge "Uzkon" pump-action shotgun, also legally held. The man was reported to the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office for animal cruelty and shooting in a public place .
