The Roberto Aringhieri vessel of the Coast Guard, based in the port of Cagliari, returns home after the Andalo 2024 mission in Spanish waters, conducted under the aegis of the European agency Frontex and coordinated by the Spanish Civil Guard.
The main objectives of participation in operations abroad are European coast guard cooperation and support for the control of migratory flows and search and rescue operations at sea.
The activity of the ship which left Cagliari culminated in a double rescue operation for two dinghies in Spanish waters. They risked sinking: there were 25 Algerian migrants on board, all of whom were saved. Furthermore, the Aringhieri crew identified a suspicious vessel, in a state of abandonment, moored off the coast and used for human trafficking: it was recovered and handed over to the Spanish Civil Guard.
The mission concluded with a total of 246 hours of motion and 2186 nautical miles of monitored Spanish national waters.
