On September 1, 34 years ago, firefighting pilot Simeone Camalich died in Sinnai. His helicopter crashed into a rock in the hills of S'Arcedda, north of Tasonis, in the Sinnai area. A memorial stone was erected there immediately after the tragedy. Several commemorative ceremonies have been held here, often attended by his mother , Marianna Camalich, who died in Tuscany in 2018. She was also awarded honorary citizenship in 2010 by then-mayor Sandro Serreli on behalf of the then administration.

Today, Mayor Barbara Puscedd remembered the heroic pilot on the city's official website: "Thank you, Simeone, Sinnai will not forget you. Today we want to renew this memory, not only to honor a man, but to pass on to new generations the value of courage, altruism, and civic commitment. May the name of Simeone Camalich always resound as a shining example of love for our land."
