In January 1991 the Sinnai massacre with the murder of Giuseppe and Gesuino Fadda and Ignazio Prasciolu on the mountains of "Cuili Is Coccus", territory of Sinnai. For that massacre Beniamino Zuncheddu was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment who has always declared himself innocent, remaining in prison for 33 years. Last January Zuncheddu was acquitted by the Roman judges, returning a free man. Yesterday his trusted lawyer, the lawyer Mauro Trogu became an honorary citizen of Burcei. The City Council proclaimed it with unanimous votes in a crowded and emotional room. Beniamino Zuncheddu was also there. A decision proposed by the mayor Simone Monni immediately after the release of his fellow countryman.

"I immediately brought the proposal to the Council - said the mayor: the vote was unanimous. Today the City Council, again unanimously, approved the resolution. From this evening Mauro Trogu is our fellow citizen. The lawyer Trogu moved and thanked. "I am happy. Burcei is a town of solidarity". Then everyone in the parish hall to celebrate the event.

Mayor Monni says. «Justice and the spirit of philanthropy, understood in its broadest sense: this is the reason that - he argued in the Council - today pushes me to present the proposal to confer honorary citizenship to Lawyer Mauro Trogu , pursuant to and for the purposes of the "Regulation on the conferral of honorary citizenship" approved with council resolution no. 3 of 02.06.2024. To the Man even before the exemplary lawyer, who was able to instill courage and hope in justice to one of our fellow citizens who was the victim of a terrible miscarriage of justice, to the Man who did his utmost, going well beyond professional ethics, to bring to light that justice that Beniamino has always deserved to obtain given his absolute innocence - as judicially ascertained the day after the review of the trial. To the Man who showed empathy towards another Man, so that empathy is the value that the new generations of Burceresi and not only, inspire their human relationships. Together we can do a lot".
