A sixty-two-year-old man from Terralba has contracted West Nile virus. This is the seventh human case of West Nile virus diagnosed in 2025 in the province of Oristano and in Sardinia . The man is in good condition and is hospitalized in the Neurology department of Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari.
Following the investigation, the Department of Hygiene and Health Prevention, headed by Maria Valentina Marras, immediately implemented all the measures foreseen for the case: an epidemiological investigation and the cordoning off of the area around the man's home to allow for more thorough disinfestation within a 200-meter radius of the house .
In recent weeks, three other people over seventy, two over sixty-five, and one over ninety tested positive for the virus. Of these six infected, four are still hospitalized, while two have been discharged and returned home.
In recent days, the information campaign, launched in April with the distribution of posters and brochures to healthcare facilities, general practitioners, and pharmacies, has been strengthened. A new bilingual poster has also been distributed to municipal administrations, illustrating the disease's transmission system and providing a series of useful tips for avoiding infection.
