The funeral of Sandro Cocco, the entrepreneur who died in hospital on Sunday after being burned the day before while carrying out waterproofing work with a blowtorch on the veranda of a house under construction in Villasimius, took place this afternoon in the parish of Settimo San Pietro .

The words of the town's parish priest, Don Giuseppe Orrù, were touching. He remembered Sandro Cocco as "an honest worker," capable of endearing himself to everyone, including his workers, whom he called "my boys."

And those workers were all in church today, or rather, at the altar, near the coffin of their friend, a victim of a job he'd done for 50 years. A tragic death, a fatality perhaps caused by illness.

It was an instant: the blowtorch Sandro Cocco was using struck him in the face, causing burns that were unfortunately fatal. Today, to pay their last respects to the man, married to Teresina and father of Alessandro and Stefano, who run his father's business, a huge crowd filled the church and the square, breaking into a long round of applause for the entrepreneur.
