Claudio Carru, 66, a former dockworker from Siniscola, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for sexual assault, has been untraceable for eight days.

The sentence was issued on Thursday, October 2nd, by the Court of Cassation , which put an end to a lengthy legal proceeding by upholding the conviction already handed down in the first two levels of proceedings. But when the Carabinieri went to execute the arrest warrant, Carru was nowhere to be found.

The man reportedly fled the day after receiving a second conviction, this time in the first instance and therefore not definitive: another 8 years in prison for attempted murder and stalking , in relation to an episode that occurred in July 2022, when he attacked his stepdaughter's partner with an axe, hitting him from behind and attempting to seriously injure him.

The escape, which now appears increasingly premeditated, has sparked a search across the island . Law enforcement is engaged in a full-blown manhunt.
