Seventy years dedicated to priestly service, which Don Guido Palmas celebrated in the parish church of Santa Barbara in Senorbì, a town where he has been resident for years and usually celebrates mass.
Born in Segariu on 20 June 1930, he was ordained a priest on 4 July 1954 in the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria in Cagliari. His first assignment was as vicar in the parish of San Giorgio Martire in Quartucciu (from 1954 to 1959), subsequently vicar in the parishes of Sant'Elia in Cagliari (from 1959 to 1963) and Santa Barbara in Sinnai (1963-1967), from 1967 to 1973 he was a missionary in Brazil. After returning to Sardinia for a year he worked as a chaplain in the nursing home of the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari.
He left a very good memory in all his parishes: San Vincenzo Martire in Orroli, San Giorgio in Quartucciu, Sant'Elia in Cagliari and San Pietro Apostolo in Suelli (from 1998 to 2012). He was then vicar in the Forania of Senorbì, parish administrator in Sisini, diocesan assistant of the Cursillo Movement and again administrator of the Santa Giusta parish in Gesico. Since 2008 he has been Chaplain to His Holiness, an honorary title which is conferred following a special concession from the Holy See to priests deemed particularly deserving. On Thursday 4 July at 7pm the community of Segariu will celebrate the seventieth anniversary of Don Guido's priestly ordination.
