Arson attacks on cars and motorcycles in seven years have exceeded 80 units, a sad toll recorded in the city of Porto Torres. In 2021, two months after the end of the year, there are seven cars burned, malicious acts that create apprehension among the people, a phenomenon that is difficult to unhinge due to the difficulty in identifying those responsible.

The method is always the same: little devil on the wheels, ignition and in a few moments the vehicle is engulfed in flames capable of destroying cars and any trace useful for investigations. A primitive way of doing justice with your own hands to avenge alleged wrongs suffered. The reasons can be many, even futile reasons that trigger the action of arsonists in the streets, in the center and in the suburbs.

The subject was addressed in the city council on the recommendation of the councilor Bastianino Spanu who also underlines the high number of vandalism and calls for the convening of a committee for public order and safety. “I would like to point out the umpteenth act of delinquency that took place a few days ago in this city - declares the councilor - it is the seventh car burned since the beginning of the year. We are a frontier city and we need to strengthen surveillance, especially in the suburbs, where it is necessary to increase controls ”.

For the mayor Massimo Mulas: “It is difficult to manage the cowardly act of those who act in the middle of the night in a few seconds - observes the mayor -. I have met the police forces present in the city several times, but men and means are lacking compared to a territory so vast to control, a staffing problem that affects the state, municipal and carabinieri police ”.
