The Lanusei prosecutor's office closed the investigation into the alleged irregularities in the sanitation operations of the Nostra Signora della Mercede hospital and of the other territorial centers of Ogliastra. Seven suspects accused of non-fulfillment and fraud in public supplies.

The notice of conclusion of the investigations, a prelude to a possible request for indictment, was served by the carabinieri on seven employees of the Sicilian cooperative based in San Cataldo (Caltanissetta), awarded the contract.

The representative of the coop in the area is also accused of the crime of serious threat against the health director of the Ogliastra Assl.

THE INVESTIGATIONS - The file was opened in January 2021, in full Covid emergency, following a series of threats against the leaders of the Assl and of cross-complaints, coming from the workers of the coop and from the managers of the Lanusei health company . The latter had suffered damage to the machinery used for sanitation and reported conduct "seriously in breach of obligations" assumed by the cooperative.

According to the prosecution, the suspects diluted the substances used for sanitization with water, and also used another disinfectant considered not only ineffective, but even toxic, to save on raw materials.

After having collected numerous testimonies, the carabinieri of the Compagnia di Lanusei, with the involvement of the Nas, had carried out a series of searches at the Lanusei hospital, in the various offices of the medical guards and at the homes of the Ogliastra workers of the coop. The investigation had continued with the seizure for evidential purposes of the machinery, tools and substances used for sanitization and had led to the termination of contractual relations between Assl and the cooperative and the assignment of the service to another company.
