Sassari, who has been suffering from ALS for a year without an ocular communicator
Desirè Manca (M5S): «An intolerable situation»Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
“Communicating through the eyes is the only thing Giancarlo can still do, but unfortunately, he has lost this possibility for about a year. Giancarlo is 48 years old, has been ill with ALS for five years and has been waiting for about twelve months to be provided with a new ocular communicator by the competent local health authority”. The complaint comes from the 5 Star Movement of Sardinia.
“Eye communicators - recalls the pentastellata regional councilor Desirè Manca - are fundamental devices in the management of pathologies such as sclerosis but with a significant and prohibitive cost for many families.
“I met Giancarlo two years ago - Desirè Manca continues - when his family members contacted me to ask me for help: they complained of the lack of regional funds for home care and I committed myself to allocating more resources. A few days ago I was again at Giancarlo's house, where I discovered that for about a year he hasn't been able to communicate with the outside world. I took action to solicit the Asl of Sassari and after my media intervention Giancarlo was taken to the hospital to carry out an eye examination. We are currently waiting for the companies in charge of managing video communicators to go to the patient's home to evaluate, through tests, which device is best suited to their needs".
"This sad story can be resolved in a very short time and I will not stop fighting until Giancarlo has the opportunity to 'speak' again. No such fragile patient - he underlines - can be left alone, as Giancarlo was left alone. Life of Sardinian patients is a battle for survival. However, it is not tolerable - concludes Manca - that the needs of so many people are ignored in this way, even when very little would be enough to greatly improve the quality of life of a person who suffers " .
