Important recognition for the city of Sassari, which also for 2022 has been awarded three Blue Flags: Porto Ferro, Porto Palmas and Platamona.
This morning the Councilor for the Environment Antonello Sassu, accompanied by the manager Marge Cannas and the technicians of the sector, in the presence of the representatives of the Coast Guard and the President of the Municipal Council Maurilio Murru, raised the Blue Flags, which also officially mark the beginning of the season.
The cloth represents an international recognition that the Fee (Foundation for Environmental Education) grants to seaside tourist resorts whose management is carried out according to specific sustainability criteria. This establishes not only the purity of the sea waters, but also the services that the Municipality is able to offer. Designing, implementing and maintaining standards of excellence is an important effort, both organizational and economic, on the part of the Administration and all interested parties. The beaches may be subject to inspection visits to verify compliance with the criteria established by the program.
The requirements are many: the quality of the water, for which periodic sampling is required, the efficiency of the purification of waste water, the conservation and biodiversity of marine ecosystems, the cleanliness of the beach, the separate collection and the adequate management of hazardous waste, in addition to the presence of a point with fresh water at the service of the users of the beaches. Particular attention is paid to the safety of bathers, with rescue services and signaling of the limit of safe waters. Ample space must be dedicated to environmental education, aimed at schools and young people, tourists and residents: in this case, the Lago Baratz environmental education center (Ceas) will carry out activities and workshops.
