“Danger shouldn’t be my job.”
Sonia Serra is a disabled woman from Sassari who uses a motorized wheelchair to get around. But between via Sulcis and via Grazia Deledda, in the Monte Rosello Alto neighborhood, architectural barriers still reign supreme . "I have to walk in the middle of the street," she says, "and I risk being hit every time because the cars go too fast."
No ramp along the sidewalks of the street that allows the lady to get onto the pedestrian path forcing her to walk for 200 meters between cars that brush past her.
"I can't go shopping, to buy something for my daughters. The step on the sidewalk prevents me from going up." And she can't afford any risky maneuver that could compromise the stability of the wheelchair she has been using for a few years after ending up in a coma in 2017 .
«I ask the Municipality to put up speed bumps to slow down the cars and ramps so I can get on the sidewalk ».
The same request comes from her daughters Vittoria and Michela, whom Sonia accompanies to school every day. One of them wrote a letter in which, in addition to the drawing that represents them all, a request for help is written down in black and white, ending with: "I await your response."
