Two arrests and 4 people fined for drugs, 42 vehicles checked and 124 men and women identified, mostly foreigners.

It is the first assessment of the high-impact operation, coordinated by the Police Headquarters, which took place this morning in the historic center of Sassari and was attended by 200 operators from the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Financial Police and the local police who carried out numerous searches in houses. and vehicles, also checking the documents of the people stopped, in particular foreign citizens who were asked to show their residence permit to understand their position in the territory.

The areas affected by the joint operation were those in the lower part of the historic centre, between Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the internal streets and alleys, which go from San Donato, the scene of a shooting last October, to Corso Vico and Via La Maddalena .

There are eight control posts, located in Porta Sant'Antonio and Piazza Mazzotti or just below Piazza Azuni, while the police forces, which included the crime prevention departments of Abbasanta, Uopi (emergency operational units), traffic police, dog handlers and bomb disposal technicians went in the direction of targeted objectives.

During the checks, two people were identified and arrested for possession for the purpose of dealing drugs such as cocaine and heroin and another four were sanctioned because they were found in possession of marijuana and heroin. However, not only drugs were carried out in the sweep because the administrative police team issued several fines to some businesses in the area.

Today's intervention comes after the intense work in November, aimed at preventing and repressing crimes, which led to the identification of over 1500 people. And it also follows the directions that emerged from the meetings of the provincial committee for public order and safety, which met to implement a reaction to the context of crime and degradation of the historic center which culminated, as mentioned, in the gunshots fired two months ago in San Donato during a fight between Senegalese and Nigerians.
