The accredited therapeutic communities in Sardinia are forced to close "within a few months without immediate solutions", because " the daily fees stopped since 2012 no longer allow patient care and staff management ".
The facilities welcome people sent by the public service with problems of drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling. Many suffer from mental disorders and are at high risk of social exclusion.
A " social container that in 35 years of activity has welcomed and cared for over 30 thousand people, giving work to over 600 ". In the absence of which, it is emphasized, there would be "a substantial increase in public spending".
The appeal was also signed by Father Salvatore Morittu , known in the news for having been awarded the honor of Commendatore by President Mattarella.
Proximity to the therapeutic communities was expressed by the president of the Volunteer Service Center Lucia Coi . "Structures that risk closing due to expensive energy and the failure to update the fees paid by the Sardinia Region". To this must be added, Coi recalls, "the fact that these communities, as well as all the social welfare structures of the island, did not receive any extraordinary resources during the pandemic period and, consequently, had to meet their own expenses. 'purchase of anti-Covid devices : masks, gowns, disinfectant, tampons ”.
"We believe that their commitment, dedication, competence and essential services they have lavished over all these years cannot be ignored but, on the contrary, must be supported with adequate economic resources", he concludes.
