Carmelo Alfonso, a Rai sports journalist, a well-known face on Novantesimo minuto and for decades a historic figure of the USSI, the Italian Sports Press Union, died at the age of 92, which he celebrated on December 27th.
Born in Alghero in 1933, he worked from a young age in Cagliari, where he began his career as a journalist at Unione Sarda. He served as sports editor at RAI and correspondent for Gazzetta dello Sport. His union commitment to sports journalism with the USSI (Italian Sports Union) is well-known, always supporting young people and the many journalists on temporary contracts.
For decades, he was president of USSI Sardinia, a national councilor, and a national vice president. He published the book "Mussiaddu" (Bite It), which recounts facts and curiosities about the history of Sardinian boxing.
