He lost control of his Yamaha R1, crashing into a parked scooter: this is how Gianluca Murru, 36, from Domusnovas, died. The accident occurred yesterday in Mentone, a French town on the French Riviera a few kilometers from the border.

Murru was a well-known and esteemed chef. He emigrated from Sardinia and worked for a long time in Ventimiglia, Liguria. He had recently moved to Roccabruna, France: his last job was in the kitchens of a restaurant in Monte Carlo.

Yesterday he was traveling towards France, along the promenade of the transalpine village. The dynamics of the accident are not clear: the Yamaha skidded, impacting the parked scooter. And Murru remained on the ground.

The rescue was immediate: the health workers tried for a long time to revive him. But Murru never regained consciousness and his heart stopped forever.

The French authorities have informed the family (the parents are originally from Musei) and the procedures for the return of the body to Sardinia have been started.

Fundraising

Friends have organized a fundraiser to bring Gianluca Murru's body back to Sardinia . In just a few hours, over 11,000 euros have been collected on the GoFundMe platform.
