Sardinia nears 40 degrees: Civil Protection issues heat alert

In Sardinia, the heatwave is expected to reach its peak today, Sunday, June 28. The regional civil protection agency has issued a high temperature warning that will be in effect from noon until 6 p.m. on Monday.
"Starting from the central hours of Sunday and at least until the evening of Monday 29th," reads the note from the general management of Via Biasi, "widely high maximum temperatures (above 34°) and locally very high temperatures (over 37°) are expected, with peaks around 40-41° , more likely on the Ozieri plain, Medio Campidano, Marmilla and Ottana plains."
Over much of the region, "minimum nighttime temperatures will be above 20-22°C, with particularly marked tropical nights in the main urban areas."
