“Lu Cóiu” is the Gallura wedding; and couples who intend to marry according to this tradition must fill out the appropriate form, which must be received by January 3, 2025 at the Protocol Office of the Municipality of Santa Teresa Gallura.

The event takes place as part of the Primavera in Gallura - Stazzi e Cussogghj event. The announcement requires that the Municipality organize, on the evening before the wedding, the representation of La Pricunta, a figurative and ironic request for the bride's hand in marriage by the future groom's family. This will be followed by traditional dances and music accompanied by Vermentino wine and typical Gallura sweets; it also requires that it guarantees, on the day of Lu Cóiu, the folkloristic and musical entertainment of the party with traditional songs and dances, and Lu Bringhisi (toast), refreshments with typical products.

This is the program: on the eve of the wedding day, the bride and groom with relatives, friends and participants in traditional dress will take part in the performance of the Pricunta, which will be animated with traditional dances and music accompanied by Vermentino wine and sweets. On the morning of the Wedding Ceremony, the groom will go to pick up his bride-to-be. The procession with the bride and groom, parents, guests and relatives will reach the church chosen for the event, where they will be welcomed by a traditional choir. In the church, the rite will take place according to the canons of the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church. The mass will be enriched by songs with traditional and sacred pieces . At the end of the religious ceremony, on the church steps, there will be the blessing of the bride and groom by their respective mothers and the breaking of the plate containing wheat, coins and flower petals. At the conclusion of the religious ceremony, all those present will be involved in Lu Bringhisi, enlivened by singing or the recitation of poems in Gallura.

If there are no applications from future spouses, for couples who intend to renew their wedding vows, priority will be given to applications from couples residing in the Municipality of Santa Teresa Gallura who are celebrating 50 years of marriage and subsequently to those who are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. Alternatively, applications from newlyweds and couples from other municipalities who are celebrating their 50th or 25th wedding anniversary in 2025 will be taken into consideration. The period identified for the creation of Lu Cóiu falls in the months of May or June 2025.
