For some days, however, many eucalyptus trees present in the Santa Giusta grove, symbol of the town close to the pond, have been cut down. An intervention that in these days is making people talk and not a little. However, the lagoon municipality let it be known that the felling was necessary due to the presence of fungal agents that attacked the trees . «When the company in charge of pruning realized that the trunks were falling apart , we decided to ask an agronomist for an opinion – explains the Councilor for Public Works Pierpaolo Erbì -. After the inspection, the expert advised us to knock them down. That's why we immediately changed the intervention. We must preserve public safety ."

Meanwhile, while the cutting of trees continues, the protest is also very popular on the web . In the group " You are from Santa Giusta se " there are many comments against the municipal administration. "What a mess," it reads. But also: "All this is a great shame", "My heart aches", "Our grove no longer exists". The former mayor Antonello Figus also intervenes on the matter: «What a disaster. To cut down trees, some centenarians, there must be serious reasons. I'm not an agronomist but the story of the mushroom doesn't convince me . The grove is the only tree-lined space where citizens find refreshment, especially in the summer. Safety first, please. That's why it was necessary to pollard, not destroy a historic area with a radical cut." .
