A flamingo with serious limb injuries, perhaps after impact with high-voltage power lines, was rescued yesterday by staff from the Cagliari Forestry Station who intervened in the protected area of the Santa Gilla pond .
The animal was transferred to the Wildlife Recovery Centre of the Forestas Agency in Monastir for any possible treatment, given the truncation of both limbs .
It is emphasized that the presence of electrical infrastructure in the area, including high- and medium-voltage power lines and pylons with foundations in the water, represents a serious threat to birdlife . Wind and photovoltaic plants also exist in the area, which could impact the species present.
That same morning, the patrol also freed two birds previously housed at the Monastir Center: a little bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), held for the past few days, and a honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus), which had been under treatment for several months. Both birds were released into the protected area of the pond.
