The Sardinian Regional Council has given the green light to the new Program Agreement between the Region and the Municipality of Cagliari for the construction of the new Sant'Elia .

The signing is scheduled for today at 5pm at Villa Devoto in the presence of President Alessandra Todde and Mayor Massimo Zedda , who will make some statements to the press.

The sum of 50 million from the Region remains , but the new agreement modifies – and not a little – the previous one signed by Christian Solinas and Paolo Truzzu. In particular, the Region explains, it renounces «volumetries that regulated transformations in the areas surrounding the stadium, including between the San Bartolomeo and Sant'Elia neighborhoods, lightening the urban planning burden in favor of a different use of the same surfaces, more consistent with the Regional Landscape Plan and the environmental policies promoted at European level».

The approved text completely replaces the previous one which, the Region underlines, «has never been followed up, as it was never actually approved».

There are three main axes, explains Todde: " The sports facility, the green areas and the public housing. We are eliminating various residential and commercial volumes to make the project less impactful and we are investing a lot in the green areas that will connect the different areas of the facility. The Region is not only financing the construction of the sports facility, but is also carrying out the enhancement of the entire Sant'Elia neighborhood. It is important to reiterate, and deny those who continue to say so, that the Region is not financing any project that does not concern the sports facility and the services connected to it."

"This - concludes the Sardinian president - is a comprehensive urban redevelopment project that sees the city of Cagliari as the protagonist. And we have worked and continue to work in this direction".
