Carabinieri officers intervened yesterday evening on Via Torino in Sant'Antioco after a resident raised the alarm after noticing suspicious activity in a home.

Arriving promptly on the scene, officers caught a man attempting to climb over the gate of the house in an attempt to escape. The man, a 30-year-old unemployed resident of Sant'Antioco, already known to the police, was promptly stopped and searched. He was found to have a blank pistol, €100 in cash, and various gold jewelry worth approximately €5,000 , stolen from a recent burglary at the home of a local retiree. The stolen property was recovered in full and returned to its rightful owner.
Once the formal procedures were completed, the 30-year-old was held in the Carbonia Carabinieri holding cell, pending the validation hearing, scheduled by the Judicial Authority for this morning.
