San Gavino Monreale opens its doors to tourists today and tomorrow, Sunday, November 2nd, and will be a chance to immerse yourself in the traditions and flavors of this Medio Campidano town to celebrate Sardinia's red gold.

The Sardinian DOP Saffron Roads Festival is an event that showcases and celebrates one of the island's most prized agricultural and food specialties . The initiative, organized by the Sardinian DOP Saffron Roads Network, which brings together the municipalities of San Gavino Monreale, Turri, and Villanovafranca, is supported by the Fondazione di Sardegna, the Regional Department of Culture, and coordinated by the Association of Local Authorities for Cultural and Entertainment Activities.

For the 2025 edition, the festival will stop in San Gavino Monreale (today, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd November), Turri (Sunday 9th November) and Villanovafranca (Sunday 16th November), in a journey that combines culture, gastronomy, art and territorial promotion .

THE PROGRAM – The Festival kicks off with a weekend packed with events, workshops, exhibitions, tastings, and performances . The program includes a first day (Saturday, November 1st) dedicated to discussion and culture, with the public meeting "Saffron of San Gavino Monreale: Perspectives, Ideas, and Participation" (at 10:30 a.m. at the Pro Loco headquarters), a presentation of the book "From the Origins to a Courageous Entrepreneur. 365 Typical Sardinian Recipes" by Maria Itria Paulis at 4:30 p.m., and the inauguration of the identity-defining work "U OU" by artist Giorgio Casu at 6 p.m. on Via Dante. The evening will continue at the Municipal Amphitheater with a free concert by Gipsy Festa Family Reyes & Bailardo (7 p.m.), followed by music and entertainment under the stars.

Sunday, November 2nd will be entirely dedicated to discovering DOP Saffron . From the morning, the streets of the historic center will come alive with markets, workshops, exhibitions, excursions, cooking demonstrations, and entertainment. From the Saffron Mountain Bike (at 8:00 am, hosted by Monreal Bike) to the Pro Loco lunch featuring saffron-based dishes (at 1:00 pm in Piazza Marconi), to the "Il Primo allo Zafferano" cooking competition with Gianluca Medas at 4:00 pm. At 8:30 pm, with the closing show, the town will transform into a grand experiential journey through flavor, tradition, and creativity.
