Warnings had already been present at the beginning of the week. So much so that when staff at the Courthouse on Via Marconi noticed debris falling from the cornices of the main façade, they reported it to the heads of the same garrison. The president, Nicola Caschili, sent a note to the Municipality of Lanusei urging maintenance of the cornices. This afternoon, further small pieces of debris broke off and fell onto the roadway.
To secure the building, firefighters from Lanusei intervened, using a ladder truck to reach the top of the courthouse and remove any unsafe parts to prevent further collapses from the architectural elements, which had deteriorated due to age and the elements' exposure to the elements.
Local police officers were on hand to manage traffic along the stretch of road, where traffic was slowed due to the presence of firefighters.
