The 40-year-old man from Tempio, accused of firing several shots (a .357 Magnum ) at a young Moroccan man , will appear tomorrow before investigating judge Marcella Pinna. The incident occurred on June 27 in Cannigione , and the alleged perpetrator of the attack ( under investigation for grievous bodily harm ) was arrested by the Carabinieri in Olbia and transferred to prison.

The investigation, coordinated by the acting Tempio Prosecutor, Alessandro Bosco, is uncovering a background that has been classified as xenophobic violence. The victim (shot in the knee and hospitalized in Olbia) was allegedly hurled racially at him before being hit by the bullets.

The arrested man (assisted by criminal lawyer Jacopo Merlini) provided a version of events diametrically opposed to that of the public prosecutor. He stated that he was the victim of the attack and that he was forced to draw the gun in self-defense. Furthermore, the shots were apparently fired inadvertently while the victim was attempting to disarm the man from Tempio. The Carabinieri in Olbia collected witness statements and acquired video surveillance footage from a service station.
