Since 8am this morning, a large regional exercise by the SAF (Speleo Alpino Fluviale) unit has been underway, involving dozens of specialized men from all the Fire Brigade Commands in Sardinia.
The setting chosen for the activity is Punta Cusidore, in the territory of Oliena, one of the most fascinating mountains of the Supramonte . With its 1147 meters of altitude, the mountain is distinguished by several overhangs, imposing pillars and exposed crests, ideal elements for simulating interventions in extreme environments . Punta Cusidore is considered a destination of excellence for both hikers and sports climbing enthusiasts, even from abroad.
The Advanced Command Post is set up near the Oloè bridge, a collection point for the Saf teams. From here, the units are loaded onto two helicopters of the Sardinia Flight Department that transport them to altitude, where the exercise begins.
The aim is to test and improve the operational response in complex scenarios such as mountain ones, where access is often difficult and environmental conditions test even the most expert operators .
The activity takes place throughout the day, involving all the specialized components of the island and represents an important moment of joint training and coordination between the different departments. In addition to the technical value, the exercise contributes to enhancing a territory of great environmental and sporting interest such as Punta Cusidore.
