The screening initiative, part of World Osteoporosis Day, promoted by the Nuoro Social Health District directed by Dr. Gianfranca Piredda and held in the Casa della Comunità San Francesco last Monday, was a great success. So much so that it will be repeated soon .

From 9 am to 3 pm, the team consisting of doctors Manuela Palmas and Daniela Fresi, assisted by nurse Maria Grazia Gambioli and the two Oss Pina Sanna and Carla Ticca, subjected 60 patients (who had booked for the event) to a dedicated visit to establish the risk of fracture through the application of a DeFRA algorithm and the measurement of calcaneal bone density via ultrasound. This was followed by the specialist's indication of any further diagnostic tests.

The response was such that the day was not enough to accommodate all the people who had booked. Therefore, a further initiative will be dedicated shortly, which will allow screening also for those who were not able to visit last October 21st .

Satisfaction from the team and the director of the District, Gianfranca Piredda: «The success of the day was also made possible by the collaboration of general practitioners, who welcomed our invitation and reported the initiative to their patients. A small example of positive synergies, in territorial medicine, to promote the prevention of a complex and insidious pathology , the cause of pathological fractures that impact on health and social costs».
