«We are looking for dreamy doctors, the dream is called Sardinia». It has the tenor of a tourism promotion slogan. Instead it is the text that accompanies the launch of a recruitment of white coats published by Ares, the regional health company: it is reported in a post - the first ever - published on the institution's newly created institutional Facebook page.

The aim is to create a ranking "for the assignment of positions, with fixed-term employment contracts, of general surgery medical managers" intended for the local health authorities of Nuoro, Ogliastra and Sulcis.

The form and substance of the message, however, have unleashed the irony. And triggered the political controversy.

“I thought it was a joke. The claim, conceived by I don't know which agency, resembles that of some old institutional tourist campaign or some resort. The announcement is for the recruitment of new doctors», attacks Francesco Agus (Progressives).

"Now, irony aside, someone should explain to the councilor and to those who work with him in health care that the reason for the lack of staff is not to be found in the doctors' lack of desire to "dream".

The causes lie «in the fact that in too many departments there are not the minimum conditions for working in safety», Furthermore «by conscious choice of the Region, less responsible and better paid alternatives have arisen: doctors for hire, above all. The madness of competing with yourself. There will be very, very few specialists willing to accept a contract as medical director in an emergency room», underlines Agus, «with the prospect of working alongside a less prepared doctor recruited by a private cooperative, with fewer duties but with a higher pay." In addition there are also «the differences with the other regions: elsewhere, in particular in the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano, a more effective network of incentives has been activated than ours which has partially stemmed the shortage of doctors, particularly in disadvantaged areas ».

And, last but not least, the shortage of doctors for Agus is linked to the fact that «chaos is ruling in Sardinian healthcare companies. An abnormal number of structures has been entrusted, for years, to the guidance of acting officials. No competitions have been held for the appointment of chief physicians and this leads those who work to operate without clear guidance and responsibilities ».
