Graziano Mesina must remain in the Milanese Opera prison.

The surveillance court of Sassari, presided over by Giommaria Cuccuru , has in fact rejected the request advanced by the two lawyers of the 80-year-old prisoner, Beatrice Goddi and Maria Luisa Vernier , according to which the former fugitive is ill due to advancing age and of an excessively sedentary life and for this reason they had asked that he be able to serve his sentence either in his home in Orgosolo or in a suitable structure.

The rejection was notified to the two lawyers this afternoon with the motivation of the measure attached. According to the coroner Antonella Rendinelli , appointed as an expert by the court, Mesina's conditions are "compatible with detention in the Opera prison, a structure suitable for dealing with any health problems".

Mesina had been transferred to Milan in mid-July last year from the Badu 'e Carros prison in Nuoro, where he was imprisoned following his capture in December 2021 after a year and a half on the run.

He had gone into hiding on 2 July 2020 shortly before the carabinieri knocked on his house in Orgosolo to notify him of the final sentence of the Cassation to 30 years in prison (later recalculated into 24) for criminal association aimed at drug trafficking.

In December 2021 he was tracked down by the Carabinieri del Ros and then arrested in a house of his friends in Desulo.
