"Worse than a kennel": the juvenile prison of Quartucciu must be closed and the boys transferred to the community. This is claimed by Irene Testa, militant of the Radicals, recently appointed guarantor of persons deprived of their personal liberty in Sardinia.

According to Testa, who carried out an inspection , "the institute that now houses eight boys, of which only two come from Sardinia, is dilapidated and unsafe, a pile of old iron and worse than a kennel".

«The last electricity bill involved an expense of 29 thousand euros», writes the Guarantor of the prisoners, «I don't have at the moment the data of the millions of euros that are spent every year to keep a structure of this type standing, in many In the years that I have been visiting prisons, I don't remember ever seeing a structure like this».

For Testa it is "unacceptable to re-educate children in such a place. A situation so serious that it forces not only the boys but all the personnel who work inside to live in a state of suffering and degradation».

Hence the request addressed to the competent authorities so that they take action "with the utmost urgency: the Quartucciu institute must be closed as soon as possible and the children sent to the community, more suitable and more effective places for their reintegration into society".
