"Check whether that ship is carrying a cargo of steel destined for Israel, for dual-use purposes." This includes weapons production. The CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour) of Sardinia shares and supports the request of the Italian branch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) network , an international movement active in support of the Palestinian cause, that "the competent authorities verify the presence of containers of dual-use steel whose final destination could be the State of Israel on the MSC Vega docked in the port of Cagliari."
Through the contacts and information channels of European and international trade union structures, denounces the secretary of the CGIL Sardinia Fausto Durante, «we have learned that the ship has been in the port for two days and could contain the same material used for the production of artillery pieces employed by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip».
If this is confirmed, the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour) is calling for the ship's departure to be prevented: "We cannot accept that sensitive materials, potentially used in areas of ongoing armed conflict and violations of international law, are being shipped from the port of Cagliari."
The appeal goes to the Sardinian Sea System Authority, the Customs Office, the Port Authority of Cagliari and any other competent body to carry out all the necessary checks before arranging the departure of the ship.
