The expected reopening of the Post Office in Via San Giovanni will not take place before Easter, the works on the counter - which began last autumn - will continue for at least another two months, causing a series of inconveniences to users, right on the eve of summer. The Post Office should have reopened its doors on April 17, as the top management of Poste Italiane had assured the municipal administration, but the renovation works related to the Polis project are far from finished.

To be certain of the reopening date of the post office - currently housed in a municipal building next to the Palazzetto dello Sport - the mayor, Walter Cabasino, sent a letter to the management of Poste Italiane: "We knew that the renovation of the office would cause some inconvenience among users forced to use a peripheral and unwelcoming office, but we were assured that the branch would reopen on April 17. All in all, the precariousness and sacrifices would be compensated by additional services and a limited time schedule for the works. A deadline that, in some way, had reassured the Administration and the citizens. Unfortunately, considering the state of the works still far from completion, it seems clear to me that the deadline will not be respected: we are worried because the summer season is now upon us, and we therefore ask for an acceleration of the works. While waiting for the reopening of the post office, we ask for a commitment to mitigate the current inconvenience of users who are still confusedly waiting their turn due to the lack of a queue cutter ."

From the minority benches, the leader of Siamo Pula, Ilaria Collu, criticizes the choice made by the Municipality in recent months to move the counter to the building next to the sports hall: «The issue has been raised several times in the City Council, opening the counter there was a big mistake . There is no signage, the area is dark in the evening and there are no cameras: in the first days of the month, when pensions are collected, people are forced to wait in line outside. The choice of the location should have been thought out better».

In a note, Poste Italiane clarifies the reasons for the delay in the works: «Due to unexpected and unforeseeable delays during the works relating to the Polis project, which has already allowed 53 branches to be renovated in Southern Sardinia, the reopening is scheduled for the first half of June . The temporary post office is equipped with four counter stations and a consultation room and is available during the usual opening hours to the public: from Monday to Friday from 8.20 to 13.35 and on Saturdays until 12.35. Thanks to the works, the branch in Via San Giovanni will be able to count on new furnishings designed to facilitate access to services, there will also be other important improvements with a view to optimising environmental comfort».
