At least 12,000 people in the Posada area are without drinking water following the fires that broke out yesterday. The fire is being cleared up but now there is another emergency: the flames have involved the town's water purification plant.

Mayor Salvatore Ruiu, in the early hours of the morning, issued an ordinance banning the use of water for drinking purposes. To limit the inconvenience, the municipal administration arranged for two tankers to arrive for the town and the seaside resort of San Giovanni.

"In the meantime - assures the mayor - we are restoring the functionality of the purifier but we do not yet know when it will be possible to have drinking water back".

Abbanoa's technicians have worked tirelessly and have managed to reactivate the system, filling is in progress and the situation should return to normal in the evening.

In any case, the company says, "until the emergency is completely overcome, Abbanoa will guarantee the replacement service with tankers which will also be operational tomorrow from 9 to 17 in via Gramsci in the center of Posada and in via Sardegna in the hamlet of San John".

An urgent interpellation was presented in these hours by Roberto Deriu (first signatory) and Giuseppe Meloni, regional councilors of the Democratic Party, addressed to the president of the Region Christian Solinas and which draws attention to the measures necessary to restore drinking water services which were interrupted due to the fire that hit several municipalities in the Baronia.

"It is imperative to minimize the inconvenience that the citizens are facing, severely affected and in shock by this new and dramatic event that puts a strain on the communities already targeted in recent years by various calamities - writes Roberto Deriu, first signatory in a note of an urgent interpellation presented to the president of the Region -. Once again the theme of civil protection, its functioning and its proven ability to show solidarity with the victims comes up again".

The document was also signed by fellow regional councilor (Pd) Giuseppe Meloni. The requests are aimed at obtaining a clear and immediate action plan to restore the supply of drinking water in the areas affected by the fire.

«The situation in Baronia requires a joint effort to ensure that all necessary resources are mobilized to restore essential services and offer the necessary support to the communities involved. But we need to act promptly," concludes Deriu.
