Only the intervention of the Carabinieri of the Porto Torres company prevented the lynching of a 26-year-old Algerian citizen, the alleged attacker who last Sunday allegedly molested a minor.

The young man was surrounded and beaten in the city center, a punitive mission following an attempted sexual assault that reignited the debate over urban safety. The man was reportedly beaten by several people on Tuesday evening.

On Sunday at 1pm, as shown by images from the area's video surveillance system, the alleged molester had approached the girl for an initial "wink" , then an insistent approach until it escalated to harassment, which the 14-year-old and her parents reported to the military at the barracks on Via Antonelli.

The young woman was also reportedly grabbed by the hair to restrain her. The girl managed to free herself from her attacker and run away towards her home.

The man, identified by the Carabinieri thanks to images from local surveillance cameras, had been stopped last week in the port area by police officers while trying to board with identity documents that were found to be irregular.

Reported to the Sassari Prosecutor's Office for an immigration offense, the judge ordered him to sign in and prohibited him from leaving the municipality without authorization.
