The embrace between mother Monica Camerotto and Giulia Cecchettin, the 22-year-old student killed on November 11, 2023 by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, sentenced to life imprisonment for voluntary homicide, is carved in the sand of Platamona.
The sand image was created on the beach of the Sorso coast by the artist Nicola Urru, a testimony of the great love between mother and daughter , so dear to her father Gino Cecchettin, and of a court decision that was not fully shared.
"A judicial sentence does not always correspond to the reality of the facts." This is what Elena Cecchettin said after the Court of Assizes decided not to recognize the aggravating circumstance of stalking and cruelty to Turetta. "It is also a lack of respect for the family, yet another confirmation that institutions do not care about women," Elena then added. "Do you know what killed my sister? Not just a violent hand, but the justification and indifference for the stages of violence that precede femicide."
