Hundreds of people crowded the church of San Gregorio Magno, in Pirri, for the last emotional farewell to Ninnino Orrù, former president of Cagliari Calcio who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 84. Ninnino was first the vice of his brother Tonino, from 1987 to 1991, then president from 1991 to 1992 before the club was sold to Massimo Cellino.
"His existence was rich in many achievements. His passion for football allowed him to write pages of glory for Sardinia as vice president and then as president of Cagliari Calcio", declared Monsignor Ottavio Utzeri, who celebrated his funeral, during the homily. "We must be grateful to him for this, because sport lived with passion is an important contribution to society".
Among the many present in the pews of the church were also former collaborators, former players such as Matteoli and Copparoni, the CEO of Cagliari Carlo Catte representing the company and the president of the Regional Council Piero Comandini. On the coffin were also the flowers sent by Claudio Ranieri, who under the presidency of Ninnino Orrù achieved a historic salvation after the climb from Serie C to Serie A.
