"Sentenced the two defendants to life imprisonment ".

This is the request of the Attorney General Paolo De Falco at the bis appeal process that is held in Cagliari against Nico Piras , 41, and his wife Alice Flore , aged 38, for the murder of the man's brother, Angelo . Maria Piras , the breeder of Lula shot dead on January 25, 2015 in the countryside of the town.

With a sensational sentence on November 3, 2021, the Supreme Court had annulled the first appeal process that had ended in Sassari with the sentence of 24 years of the two Piras spouses (overturning the first degree sentence that had acquitted them) and establishing a new trial before the second degree judges of Cagliari. The annulment was motivated because the verdict had "re-proposed an alternative thesis with respect to the first degree sentence, violating the obligation that requires the appellate judge who overturns the first degree acquittal sentence, to draw up a reinforced motivation".

The pg De Falco, the same who had supported the accusation in Sassari, confirmed before the Cagliari court presided over by Massimo Poddighe , the "solid evidence" against Nico Piras and his wife, starting with the motive, that is " the family disagreements linked to the inheritance between Nico and his brother Angelo Maria, including the night before the murder there was a violent collision in which Nico was brutally beaten by his brother ".

An important role in the affair, for the attorney general, was played by the wife of Nico Piras. "The incitement to kill her husband by Alice clearly emerges from the wiretaps - explained the pg - Her involvement is also demonstrated by the GPS detections placed on Nico's car (already intercepted for other facts, ed) which have documented the stop of the car driven by the woman near a dilapidated farmhouse in Lula, where she threw the boots used by her husband for the murder, on which the experts then ascertained the genetic signature of Nico Piras ".

The civil parties , Giovanni Colli and Francesco Mossa for the victim's wife and children, joined the requests of the public prosecution.

The trial was adjourned to June 24 for the arguments of the defenders: Rita Dedola and Domenico Cerasaro for Nico Piras and Tito Flagella for his wife Alice. While Francesco Lai, second defender of the woman, will discuss on 6 July.
