Palio di Guasila to the Municipality of Orune: Giuseppe Piccinnu wins on the saddle of the Poet

The Municipality of Orune with Giuseppe Piccinnu riding the thoroughbred "Il Poeta" (Monni Galoppo stable) won the 36th edition of the   palio of Santa Maria a Guasila in front of a splendid setting of the public (over 2 thousand present). In the palio of the neighborhoods, as in the previous edition, Giovanni Sotgia triumphs this time on the saddle of the Anglo-Arab Cuordor (Pusceddu Renzo stable) representing the neighborhood Su Spaiadroxiu.

In the thoroughbred race behind Piccinnu Marco Bitti was placed on Rombo di Tuono of the Tocco Pinna stable for the Municipality of Villamassargia. Third place for Giovanni Sotgia on Amelie (Giulino Porcu stable in Domusnovas) for the Municipality of Guasila.

The order of arrival of the neighborhood palio is completed with the second place of Marco Bitti on Dark Mary (Stable Michele Sistu di Buddusò) representing the Santa Rita neighborhood and with the third place of Riccardo Sulis on Belfagor (Sulis stable), Giraniedda neighborhood.

The jockey Piccinnu was satisfied at the end of the race: «A very fast race with Marco Bitti who set a pace right away and kept it for two laps. In the last one I managed to get close and I overtook three hundred meters from the finish line».

The historic president of the Guasilese horse racing association, Carlo Murru: «I am so satisfied with both the public and the horses. A horse category of this level is not often seen. They were two good competitions, both that of the Municipalities and of the neighborhoods ».

The mayor of Guasila, Paola Casula, could not be missing. «The Palio di Guasila is confirmed as one of the most prestigious poles in Sardinia», he says. «Let's remember that many of the jockeys who will be present at the Palio di Siena were trained on this track. For us it is a source of pride. Lots of participation and great quality from the horses that competed. This year our Palio will go to the Municipality of Orune. A deeply felt tradition connected to the celebrations of the Assumption and therefore also embellished by this aspect of faith and also loved by the Guasilese also for the race of the districts, which is the palio of the neighborhoods. For us, mid-August is the Palio di Santa Maria».
