The obligation to wear an outdoor mask in the center and in the shopping streets of Cagliari has started today, but the citizens are unprepared ( HERE the list of times and streets where there is the obligation).

At least 40% of the people who walked between via Garibaldi and via Manno did not wear the protective device.

So in the afternoon the commander of the local police Guido Calzia also took to the field, who with four agents left Piazza Yenne for an "awareness" tour.

"In these first days - explains Calzia - we will try above all to inform and involve the inhabitants of Cagliari, with common sense and tolerance. We do not want to pass on a message of punishment or repression".

The first contacts are in fact cordial: "Madam, from today the obligation to wear a mask has started". “Excuse me, thank you very much, I forgot about it”, almost all of them reply like this. “I lost it - says a boy - now I go to a friend's bar and I borrow one”.

Someone complains: "Why time slot masks, before Covid is not there?". "It takes an app, how do you remember when and where to wear it?". "In the Amazon - explains a Cagliari perhaps just back from there - things don't work like that".

The ban was triggered in the main commercial streets in view of the Christmas holidays. But it is extended, outside the urban center, also to the Poetto seafront, another meeting place and possible gathering of the inhabitants of Cagliari during the holidays.

The informative tour of the agents will therefore also arrive on the seashore. For now, the aim is to raise awareness, then the fines will be triggered, which are not light: offenders risk a fine of 400 euros, 280 if paid within five days.
