The transcripts of the telephone and environmental interceptions enter the trial of Giuseppe and Mauro Contena , the 51-year-old twins from Orune, accused of the murder of their grazing neighbor, Antonio Mauro Carai , 74 years old, which took place in the night between the 27th and on August 28, 2021 in the country's countryside.

The Nuoro Assizes Court, chaired by Elena Meloni, has in fact rejected the preliminary objections of the defense team, made up of Luigi Esposito, Nicola Caricaterra and Stefano Zoccano, according to which the interceptions collected in the car of the two defendants are to be considered illegitimate .

The trial , which opened on February 20 with the admission of the evidence, will continue on May 8 when the first witness of the prosecutor will be heard : Major Michele Cappa, who at the time of the crime headed the investigative unit of the Carabinieri of Nuoro.

Carai's family filed a civil action with the lawyers Lorenzo Soro and Pasquale Ramazzotti. According to the prosecutor's office, represented by his deputy Riccardo Belfiori, the motive for the murder is linked to disputes over grazing issues .

A crime of impetus, after a dispute that degenerated and ended in blood: the blows hit the victim all over the body and were inflicted with anger and violence , so much so that the prosecutor also charges the twins with the aggravating circumstance of cruelty . From the outset, the methods of execution had ruled out the logic of the feud and the investigations had led a few months later on the trail of the Contenas. The turning point had come with the probationary incident of November 8, 2021, when an unknown genetic profile was found in their car and in a shirt seized from their home. Profile which then, following the investigations of the Cagliari Ris expert, confirmed the compatibility of the DNA found with that of the victim: at that point the arrest was triggered with the Contenas who ended up in the Badu 'and Carros prison in December 2021.
