Oristano: Elderly people defrauded by a fake policeman: two twenty-year-olds arrested

The raid took place yesterday afternoon at a B&B on Via Verga in Oristano. Two twenty-year-olds from the Caserta area were arrested, accused of defrauding seniors at the Guilcier and Barigadu centers.

The Carabinieri of the Ghilarza command triggered the attack, having descended on the capital to handcuff the two young men after several weeks of investigation.

The two men set up the usual fake Carabiniere scam. Essentially, one of them identified himself over the phone as a soldier to inform the elderly victim that a relative was involved in serious legal proceedings and that he needed to hand over some money to avoid criminal charges. Shortly thereafter, the other would show up at the victim's home to collect the money or gold items.

This time, however, it was the real Carabinieri who knocked on the door and took their fake colleagues first to the barracks and then to Massama prison.
