“If it hadn’t been for that angel named Rita who was inside the supermarket, I wouldn’t be here now telling you about the nightmare I experienced.”

Maria Teresa Firinu, who will turn 74 in a few days, is sitting on the sofa in her home on Via Ricovero in Oristano, recounting the horrific experience she experienced Wednesday evening. A twinge in her leg and a few tears from the shock she'll never forget.

It was 8:00 PM when the woman was in the produce section of a supermarket on Via Marconi with her husband, Mauro Licheri. Suddenly, the pensioner fell to the ground after tripping over a plastic crate containing basil plants. The box was so sharp that it caused a long cut on her left leg. "I immediately found myself in a pool of blood," the woman recounts. "I had no skin. I couldn't understand anything, I was scared, my head was spinning, I was surrounded by so many people."

"I suddenly saw this girl, Rita Sanna, who didn't hesitate to undress and wrap her clothes around my leg," Maria Teresa Firinu continues. "First she took off her shirt, and then, seeing that the bleeding was continuing, she emptied her canvas bag to use that too. She was also trying to make me smile while waiting for help."

Then the arrival of 118 and the rush to the San Martino hospital in Oristano.
