The new Terranova train station was inaugurated in Olbia.

Present at the cutting of the ribbon were the president of the Sardinia Region, Christian Solinas, the mayor Settimo Nizzi, the regional councilor for transport, Giorgio Todde, the managing director and general manager of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Group), Vera Fiorani.

After the activation of the technological part, which took place at the end of September with the installation of the first Computerized Central Apparatus (ACC) in Sardinia, a new station comes into operation in Olbia. The new Terranova station - which has seen five work sites busy for four years, with a daily presence of 80 operators including RFI and contractors - has three tracks for passenger service and three tracks dedicated to train circulation. For its construction, more than 150 kilometers of electrical cables and over 3 thousand cubic meters of concrete were used for a total investment of 22 million euros.

In continuity with the expansion plan of the Olbia transport hub, the construction of the railway connection with the Costa Smeralda airport is also planned, included among the Pnrr projects, for a total investment of 170 million euros, which will allow for a further opportunity. development and greater usability of the railway service thanks to the construction of the new stop at the hospital and the modal interchange with the airport. A second phase of upgrading the infrastructural equipment of Olbia Terranova will also be carried out, which will further improve the station's capacity for connections to / from the airport. Furthermore, in consideration of the central role of the city of Olbia in the Sardinian transport system, a series of discussions have been initiated with the reference stakeholders aimed at identifying new service opportunities that meet the infrastructural evolution of the network in the coming years. Finally, discussions are underway with the Region of Sardinia for a further enhancement of the commercial offer through a series of interventions on the Olbia - Golfo Aranci line for the creation of an "extended" intermodal node between the two locations.
