New perspectives, ambitious projects and a concrete commitment to relaunch the cattle sector. This is what emerged from the assembly organized by Coldiretti Nuoro Ogliastra, which brought together over 150 breeders of the Limousine and Charolaise breeds in Nuoro. A strategic meeting, set up by the trade association at the headquarters of the Lariso cooperative in Pratosardo, which laid the foundations for facing with unity and vision the challenges of a sector that is fundamental to the economy of the Island and which united companies in the sector with the federation, represented for the occasion by its provincial leaders and all the area secretaries.
Supply chain contract
A sector that wants to react, focusing on unity and cohesion. Important news emerged from the Nuoro day, first and foremost the presentation of the new supply chain contract signed by the Coldiretti National Confederation with Inalca, for a "Bovine supply chain of 100 percent born and raised in Italy ". A strategic project that aims to enhance quality meat and Made in Italy, promoting the production of national "ristalli" of breeds such as Limousine and Charolaise, registered in the "genealogical book", and their crosses. "This path was originally created to support and enhance the internal areas of the South, historically suited to extensive breeding of the cow-calf line - underlines the president of Coldiretti Nuoro Ogliastra, Leonardo Salis -. From 2025, however, it will be extended to the entire national territory, offering new opportunities for our Sardinian breeders too. The goal is to improve the Italian cattle herd, increasing the production of high-quality meat and reducing dependence on foreign imports. This represents a significant turning point for the sector, often forgotten, but crucial for the economy of the Island".
Ambitious goals
The project illustrated in Nuoro aims to consolidate the competitiveness of companies, ensuring fair remuneration for products and increasing the market share of 100 percent Italian meat. "We want to ensure a stable position on the market for calves for stalling, improving the competitiveness of the product - says the director of the Federation, Alessandro Serra -. Then, promoting a process of valorization that, soon, will also involve native bovine breeds. This will be a decisive step for the aggregation and valorization of the product, essential to ensure breeders an adequate and sustainable income".
Driving sector
A certainty has emerged from the capital of Barbagia: the cattle sector is still of great importance for the Sardinian economy. "The cattle sector is not only a pillar of Sardinian agriculture, but also an element of identity that deserves to be protected and enhanced - concludes Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra -. Assemblies like this are essential to face the challenges of the present and the future together, with a vision that looks to sustainable development and the enhancement of territorial excellence".
