"A nasty and violent attack against the staff of the Penitentiary Police: an assistant chief of the Penitentiary Police was brutally beaten to death by a foreign prisoner who had long ago announced his intention to attack the agents".

This was reported by Luca Fais, Sappe regional secretary for Sardinia in a note in which the autonomous union of the Penitentiary Police spoke of "serious problems in the prisons of Sardinia": "It is serious that the Department of the Penitentiary Administration of Rome and the Provveditorato Cagliari Regional Authority, to which the management of the Nuoro prison had addressed precisely to transfer this violent prisoner to a more suitable structure, have not done anything ".

"Now the colleague, to whom all the solidarity of Sappe goes, is in hospital for the treatment of the case with a probably broken arm, various and serious injuries and bruises. All this is unacceptable and intolerable - adds Fais - Regional prisons are highlighted once again for episodes of violence: unfortunately, many inmates who assign us have serious psychiatric problems, many others are dangerous and restricted in the High Security circuit and 41 bis, for very serious crimes including terrorism. There are no Penitentiary Police officers in Sardinia, directors, commanders and civilian personnel. The Penitentiary Police does its utmost to guarantee what is established by current legislation, but many times there are no units for a more active control ". According to the general secretary of Sappe Donato Capece" our reports to the Department remain unheard of the Penitentiary Administration of Rome ".

Then the appeal to the Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia "to stop this spiral of unacceptable and daily violence and to define, with the leaders of the DAP, an urgent intervention plan to deal with the serious problems of Sardinian prisons".
